Kath had an intense fear of spiders since she was a young girl. She scanned the ceilings of every room she walked into and was exhausted by being constantly on high alert.
Her phobia was having an impact on her relationships and she was embarrassed when she needed to call for help. She was dreading an forthcoming house move because she would need to get boxes out of the attic which may have spiders in. One of her worst fears is when she had seen a spider, then lost sight of it. Knowing it was near but not being able to see it means she just couldn't stay in the room.
Killing spiders went against her values of treating living things with respect. She desperately wanted to be able to capture them in a glass and put them carefully outside, but just couldn't do it.
After just ONE session, Kath was able to move a spider on a piece of tissue across a room! We had two more sessions to ensure all aspects of the phobia had been eliminated.
Since then she has been able to capture spiders in a glass to remove them, and doesn't panic now if she loses sight of a spider.

A phobia is an intense, irrational fear of a specific object, situation, or activity. Unlike general anxiety, phobias are often disproportionate to the actual threat posed and can significantly impact a person’s daily life. This can mean that people with phobias may go to great lengths to avoid the feared object or situation, and this avoidance can lead to distress or feeling limited in their day to day life.
Common phobias include fear of heights, spiders, or flying, and can include normal or every day objects such as balloons or buttons.
Phobias can develop for a variety of reasons. Some common reasons could be:
Past experiences: A frightening event could lead to a lasting fear. For example, being bitten by a dog may lead to a fear of all dogs.
From observing others: People can develop phobias through observing others. For example, if someone grows up with a parent who has a phobia (such as a fear of spiders), they may adopt the same fear.
Brain chemistry: Differences in how an individual's brain processes fear, could play a role. The amygdala, which is the part of the brain responsible for processing fear, may be overactive in people with phobias.
In many cases, phobias can develop slowly and may not always have a clear cause. The good news is that we do not need to spend hours delving deep into you childhood, or psyche to help free you from your phobia. We start with how it is affecting you now and gently change it for you in the present and into the future.
I'm happy to work with all kinds of fears, phobias and anxiety.
This can include working with specific phobias, such as spiders, animals, flying, needles etc. that cause panic and distress whenever encountered. I'd describe these as a panic reaction to a specific stimulus (e.g. panic at the site of a spider, or the site of a bit of black fluff that you thought was a spider, or panic when trying to board a plane).
I'm also skilled in working with any fears that are holding you back, even if they are not a full blown phobic response.. This can include public speaking, having difficult conversations, driving anxiety, exam nerves, or any situation where you find yourself self-sabotaging but aren't sure why. Anxiety can often be described as worrying endlessly about "what if..." about future situations that haven't yet occurred, but those looping thoughts mean you do not have any inner peace.

You'll be sent a Zoom link to dial into at the agreed time. During the session I'll start by asking you about what life is for you right now living with the phobia. We'll discuss the impact it is having on you and those around you. I'll discuss the options for how we address the phobia, e.g. whether we use hypnosis or NLP.
If we use hypnosis I will ask you to sit comfortably so I can see you , with your head and neck supported and I will guide you into a relaxed state. With NLP we will explore how you experience you phobia and we will focus on identifying any unhelpful patterns that are keeping you stuck.
At no time will I force you to confront your phobia. E.g. it won't be like that recent TV programme where people were placed into room to get them to experience "peak fear". My clients describe the process as peaceful and relaxing.

Session 1: 90 minute session to eliminate triggers around your phobia leaving you feeling peaceful and calm
Session 2: One hour session to help your mind literally forget about the phobia, so you can get on with your life

I have a range of techniques we can use of which hypnosis is just one. If we do decide hypnosis is a good fit for you, you should find it to be a very pleasant, relaxing experience where are able to tap deeply into your subconscious mind to release limiting beliefs, overcome fears, and create new patterns of thought and behaviours that align with your desired outcomes.
If you are sure that you do not want to experience hypnosis, then I have a wealth of other effective techniques that will help free you from your phobia that do not involve hypnosis.
Have you ever wondered about how your thoughts, language, and behaviours are linked? That’s where NLP (neurolinguistic programming) comes in. It’s a powerful tool for making positive changes in life by uncovering patterns in how we perceive the world.
Using NLP, I can guide you to reshape how you perceive your phobia. For example, when you think of the object of the phobia we explore how you experience the thoughts and feelings about it. Changing the way you represent the phobia can dramatically change your future experiences. My ciients describe it as being left with memories of having a phobia in the past, but when they think of them there is no longer any negative emotions or panic assosiated with thinking about them.
This means that when you encounter the object of your phobia after the session, you are not overwhelmed with feelings of panic but instead feel calm and in control.
